ABOUT
ETHNOS ATRAMO is the personal journey of two musicians (Pepa G. Lillo and Gabriel Navalón) seeking a balance between the ancient and the contemporary through the reinvention of rhythms and melodies from the vast musical heritage left by past generations. An original sound proposal that unites tradition with avant-garde and establishes bridges between the beats of the past and the present, connecting with the listener's imagination and inviting them to let themselves be carried away by the spirit of sounds without time or borders.

After its debut in 2008, ETHNOS ATRAMO performs on emblematic stages of Castilla-La Mancha such as the Teatro de Rojas in Toledo on the occasion of the proclamation of the Semana Grande del Corpus (June 2009), the Plaza de Padilla in Toledo within the concert cycle "Summer Nights" (July 2009), the historical site of Melque playing music for the closing of the exhibition "Puentes" by the collective "La Estación" (March 2010), and the ruins of San Pedro in Hita (Guadalajara) on the occasion of its 50th Medieval Festival (July 2010), among others.

After more than three years of intense work at the Crisol de Utopías studio (Toledo), this Castilian duo of electroacoustic folk presents in 2013 their first record under the title "Ethnos Atramo" (edited and distributed by Several Records and produced by Gabriel Navalón). The presentation of this work led ETHNOS ATRAMO during that year and afterward to offer their music in various places and events of national and international relevance: Sephardic Museum of Toledo (May 2013), Festival Folk Segovia (June 2013), Museum of Santa Cruz de Toledo (July 2013), Voix Vives International Poetry Festival (September 2013), The Tradition Fridays Cycle of the Ethnographic Museum of San Sebastián de los Reyes (October 2013), Úbeda Water Synagogue (October 2013/May 2014/November 2015), Madrid Folk Festival (December 2013), Palace of the Forgotten in Granada (May 2014), Íllora Parapanda Folk Festival (July 2014), Castilla-La Mancha Library (November 2015), Eñe Festival (November 2015), among others.

On the other hand, the Iberian Dance Company commissioned ETHNOS ATRAMO in 2014 to compose the soundtrack of its stage production "Maimónides · A journey without return" which premiered successfully in November of that year at the Joaquín Rodrigo Auditorium in Las Rozas (Madrid). This multidisciplinary show, which combines dance, theater, 3D projections, and live music (inspired by the Sephardic, Ashkenazi, and Judeo-Yemenite traditions), is also staged in November 2015 at the Góngora Theater in Córdoba.

In the spring of 2016 and included in the program of the XXVIII International Festival of Music and Dance "Ciudad de Úbeda", ETHNOS ATRAMO presents its second album "Sinagoga del Agua" (edited and distributed by Several Records, produced by Gabriel Navalón and sponsored by the Sinagoga del Agua), which collects unreleased songs recorded during the concerts offered in Úbeda (Jaén) in October 2013 and May 2014. Since then, this Spanish electroacoustic folk duo has been presenting their new work at important international festivals and different peninsular venues: Voix Vives International Poetry Festival (September 2016), Ronda Space in Madrid (February 2017), Toledo Art Circle (April 2017), "José de Espronceda" Cultural Center in Madrid (May 2017), Murcia Tres Culturas International Festival (May 2017), International Sephardic Music Festival in Córdoba (June 2017), Frigiliana Tres Culturas Festival (August 2017), among others.

In 2018, this avant-garde duo began to work on a new album and in April made a tour of Galicia that covers important spaces of the current Galician scene: Garufa Club in A Coruña, Casa das Crechas in Santiago de Compostela (A Coruña), and Arca da Noe in Vilar de Santos (Ourense).

In 2021, and after the pause caused in the music scene by the Covid pandemic, ETHNOS ATRAMO presents the single "Pello Joxepe" (edited and distributed by Severalia Música) as a special release in digital format (iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, Amazon, Deezer, etc.) and conceptually independent of what will be their third album.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the music of ETHNOS ATRAMO has always been closely linked to the world of letters, since it has not only participated in the Voix Vives International Poetry Festival, playing the words of relevant Mediterranean poets (Liliane Giraudon, Hakim Miloud, Pilar González España, Kristina Mrdja, among others) and in the last edition of the Eñe Festival directed by Manuel Rivas (Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid) as the only invited musical group, but has also participated in numerous recitals of Hebrew poetry (classical and contemporary), Spanish mystical poetry of the 16th century, contemporary Castilian poetry, etc.
