Aimrec, established in 1992 by Ustad Hamid Hossain, has been releasing quality Indian classical recordings with the aim of promoting and propagating the beautiful art of Indian music to the Western world. Presenting artists such as Ustad Vilayat Khan, Budhaditya Mukherjee, Shujaat Khan, Pandit Jasraj, Rashid Khan, Mashkoor Ali Khan, Salamat Ali Khan, Ghulam Mustafa, and a host of other luminaries in the world of Indian classical music in the Washington D.C. metro area in live performances as well as high-quality recordings.

Using its technological prowess, Aimrec went on to produce and develop "Tabla: A Journey into Eastern Percussion" based on CD-ROM for the PC and Mac, which was aimed at introducing Indian percussion utilizing video, audio, and text in 2001. In 2009, Aimrec released Sangeetpedia, a complete interactive DVD-ROM for the PC which is a complete encyclopedia of Indian music, with 1,500 terms, 700+ videos, and 450+ audio files. Aimrec then produced the mobile app Sangeetpedia Mobile in 2011, which is now available in the iTunes App Store for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. With plans to continue growing and supporting more digital platforms, Aimrec strives to advance its mission of "preserving tradition through technology."

With its sister organization, The Academy of Indian Music and Fine Arts, Aimrec hosts an annual Indian classical music and dance competition. The annual competition attracts over 250 participants who participate in a wide range of classical, semi-classical, dance, and popular music. Since its inception 28 years ago, the competition has had many thousands of visitors and participants from all 50 of the United States and as far as Mexico, South America, Canada, and Europe.
