ABOUT
The Mariposa Folk Festival is renowned for presenting an impressively wide range of folk/roots artists, and 2016 — our 56th year — will be no exception.
The 11 stages arrayed around Orillia’s lakeside Tudhope Park site are guaranteed to serve up smile-making performances of many kinds. While everyone looks forward to the spectacular main stage concerts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, it’s also a treat to enjoy the more intimate performances made possible by the Barnfield and Estelle Klein Stages and other smaller Mariposa venues where singers swap songs and players swap tunes, and boutique concerts create musical magic.
The Sunshine Stage, situated in the fabulous area for kids called Folkplay, hosts performances made especially for children and their parents. Elsewhere in Folkplay, participation is what’s happening, as many little hands turn out paintings, crafts, kites, and garlands.
You are invited to stroll through the Artisans’ Village, a community of talented craftspeople with everything handmade for sale from guitars, fiddles, and drums to jewelry, pottery, carvings, paintings, fashions, and woven art. Over at our general store, called the Emporium, stylish Mariposa Folk Festival garb is available along with recordings by this year’s festival artists and hard-to-find folk-music collectibles.
Food and beverage vendors at Mariposa are selected with care, with the result that the quality and variety of what’s on offer frequently earns praise from festival-goers. Then there is the beer tent, a cordial place to meet and greet friends both new and old. Somehow, listening to good live music beneath the Mariposa beer tent canvas is a special festival experience quite unlike any other.

Mariposa, as it’s called by music lovers everywhere, began here in 1961. Since then, Mariposa has earned its outstanding reputation as one of the best outdoor music festivals in North America. Each year, from nine stages at beautiful Tudhope Park by the lake, beloved recording artists and talented younger stars thrill audiences with their music, leaving no doubt that, in July, Orillia really is the only place to be.
