ABOUT
Mamoutou Dembélé started music when he was 6 years old. He's from the Bwa (or Bobo) ethnic group of Mali. He mixes Bwa tradition and language with Bambara and plays instruments of different ages and traditions. "Dimiya" was recorded at The Moffou, Salif Keïta's studio in Bamako. Mamoutou created his own 15-string instrument, somewhere between the kora and kamelengoni. He also plays percussion (tama, the talking drum, and djembé). He's not only a virtuoso of his instrument but also one of the sweetest voices of the new generation of Malian musicians to emerge from the chaos.
