ABOUT
Avokado Artists is a 360-degree arts organization dedicated to cross-cultural understanding through art and the cultivation, promotion, presentation, and preservation of culturally significant artists and their work from around the globe. We strive to bring the works of these artists to the attention of the broadest possible audience. The organization was founded in 2004 and was granted 501(c)(3) status in 2009. For the past 19 years, Avokado Artists has produced, curated, and presented ¡Globalquerque! New Mexico’s Annual Celebration of World Music & Culture. ¡Globalquerque! programming includes multiple performing artists in world-class settings over two days, as well as educational and community outreach programs around and during the festival. Avokado Artists presents performances, shows, educational, and community events throughout the year, as well as consults and manages artists and other arts and cultural organizations. Artists and organizations that we are currently directly working with include two-time Grammy-winning Native American "renaissance man" Robert Mirabal (Taos Pueblo), Iraqi oud virtuoso and composer Rahim AlHaj, Mexican post-traditional painter Jade Leyva, Brazilian-US musical fusionists Nation Beat, Latinx powerhouse Nosotros, Angolan Afropop artist Vivalda Ndula, Ur Arts and Culture, SEEDS: A Collective Voice, and others. Avokado Artists also records artists aurally and visually and helps to distribute their work through CDs, video, photography, printed publications including books, electronic media, and various contextual materials. We have also worked with universities to create residencies for our artists, including the University of Alberta, the University of Texas-Austin, the University of Chicago, the University of Maryland, the University of Iowa, Northern Arizona University, and many others.
