BASHKA

Bashka creates a new approach to the music of multicultural diversity in an obviously Australian way. While respecting the traditions they are drawing from, the band has used these as a platform to create an entirely new sound. Their music is original, sometimes utilizing elements of traditional music to inspire contemporary compositions which are fused with Western styles such as jazz and hip hop. It is designed to blur the boundaries between East and West and create an environment for communication and sharing between worlds, capturing musical conversation between people whose only common language, in some cases, is that of music.

The music Bashka creates is about contrast - between East and West, composed and improvised, original and traditional. Bashka adds the final element of digital to offset the acoustic, and this brings the music to a new level of live performance. Live samples and loops merge seamlessly with ancient acoustic and modern Western instruments to create music that brings to life old folk songs, gypsy ballads, and dance music from the dirt streets of old Turkey.
