ASSURD
"A journey to the South of Italy between traditions and original compositions.
The project brings to light the feminine universe, drawing on the repertoire of traditional Neapolitan songs and on texts of its own writing. The ensemble is composed of traditional instruments, and to these is added the electric double bass, an instrument that transforms traditional sounds into modern ones. BIOGRAPHY
Assurd is a musical project that has been taking to the streets and stages all over the world the folk traditions of Southern Italy since 1993. Among the founders of the group are Cristina Vetrone (voice and button diatonic accordion) and Lorella Monti (voice, frame drums, and castanets) who, in close contact with the old traditional singers and studying the most important texts and archives, put together a wide and varied repertoire. Furthermore, over the years, original compositions have been added in order to provide a sense of continuity and constant movement to tradition. In the current lineup, Vetrone and Monti have been supported by the singer and percussionist Chiara Carnevale, and – for the first time in the history of the group, stubbornly and proudly characterized by femininity – a male presence: that of the double bass player Fulvio Di Nocera. A young and fresh addition that allows the 'Assurd' project to be timeless, looking back on its history and the collaborations that have characterized almost thirty years of artistic production[…]
