Tapestry - Release statement ‘ Nava’ , a Persian/Irish ensemble, launch their debut album ‘ Tapestry’   Navá is a groundbreaking group of young musicians exploring the relationship between the ancient musical cultures of Ireland and Persia. It is comprised of folk/bluegrass musicians Paddy Kiernan and Niall Hughes, and Iranian born brothers Shahab and Shayan Coohe. Their debut album, ‘Tapestry’ was recorded at Hellfire Studios, an intimate studio in the Dublin Mountains, overseen by Adrian Hart (I Draw Slow, Yurodny) and Tony Byrne (Julie Fowlis, Danù), with support from the Arts Council of Ireland. The album charts a unique sonic landscape, weaving material from the Irish and Persian traditions into a beguiling tapestry of sound, treating listeners to a joyous exploration of the connection between two venerable musical cultures. The material ranges from an Irish/Iranian medley ‘The Rolling Wave/Chahar Mezrab’ through mesmerizing original tunes such as ‘Hess’ and 'The Semuta Jig’ via a bluegrass breakdown entitled ‘Magic Box’ through to the epic finale of ‘The Persian Connection’.  The band, formed in late 2015, honed their sound through performances at Electric Picnic, Vantastival, Imbolc Festival (supporting Sharon Shannon) Kaleidoscope Night, the ‘Listen At’ concert series, IMC’s ‘Hotter Than July’ Festival, and The Chester Beatty Library.  Late 2017 sees them launching their album as part of the ‘Tradition Now’ Concert Series at the National Concert Hall, Dublin, with a performance at 6pm on Friday 6th October.  www.navatheband.com more
