ABOUT
Vangelis Kontopoulos was born in Cronv, Czechoslovakia. At the age of 15, he moved to Greece. He studied bass at the National Conservatory of Thessaloniki and graduated in 1996. He worked as a professional bass player in concerts and studios along with many important Greek artists such as: Alkistis Protopsalti, Agami Thite, Nikos Portokaloglou, Eleni Tsaligopoulou, Melina Kana, Haris Alexiou, George Dalaras, Giorgos Andreou, Tania Tsanaklidou, Christos Thivaios, Pantelis Thalassinos, Thanos Mikroutsikos, Nikos Xydakis, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Vasilis Papakonstantinou, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Lefteris Christofis, Nikos Touliatos, Kostas Maginas, Nikos Zoudiaris, Nikos Sidirokastritis, Takis Farazis, Balkanatolia, Roland Hofman, Peter Saltsev, Paul Wertico, Chico Freeman, etc. He was a member of the Municipal Orchestra of Thessaloniki from 1993 to 1995. He plays in various bands while pursuing a solo career, indulging in improvisation. Using electric, fretless electric, and acoustic bass, and with a touch of the magic hand of technology, he explores music taking full advantage of his unique sound. He has written music for theatrical plays and modern dance. Recently, Vangelis has completed the recordings of two new personal LPs: "Like the Flowing Water" and "Live in the Museum" and is already preparing his new LP.
