Protasis Music was founded in 1994 as an independent Greek record company.

The managing director, Nikos Economou, is a highly qualified musician and record producer with working experience in major Greek music companies, such as Warner Greece and BMG Greece from 1989 until 1994, when he launched his own record company.

Protasis Music is very well known in Greece as a record company that specializes in world music production, producing rebetiko, traditional - ethno Greek music, jazz, and very carefully selected popular Greek music.

Protasis Music has collaborated with almost all the major distinguished singers/performers in Greece such as Kristi Stasinopoulou and Stathis Kaliviotis, Giorgos Dalaras, Glykeria, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Giannis Kotsiras, Agathonas, Babis Tsertos, Eleni Tsaligopoulou, Loukianos Kilaidonis, Mario, Notis Mavroudis, Katerina Tsiridou and Rebetiko band, Vassiliki Karakosta, among others, producing collections that sold thousands of copies and continue to be distributed online through 46 digital sellers worldwide.

Protasis Music owns approximately 7000 master tapes from almost all the Greek music genres, such as classic/contemporary, traditional, jazz, rock, soundtracks, instrumentals, and of course rebetiko. Protasis is the most specialized record company in Greece concerning rebetiko with a vast catalogue of all the most important composers such as V. Tsitsanis, G. Mitsakis, G. Papaioannou, A. Chatzichristos, M. Vamvakaris performed by famous Greek artists.

Some of the most important recent productions of Protasis, among many others, are:

1. Babis Tsertos sings Michalis Sougioul, which was presented via 2 sold-out concerts in the ancient open theater Odeon of Herod Atticus.

2. Mario, the last female singer of rebetiko, widely famous in Europe.

3. Katerina Tsiridou and Rebetiko band, the famous rebetiko voice, which was at no. 5 for several weeks on the official European radio chart of Ethnic/World Music. She has performed concerts in many European countries such as Holland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Israel, etc.

Denia Kourousi, an excellent female rebetiko performer with a very important career in Greece.

Giorgos Tzortzis, a famous and very experienced Greek performer of rebetiko and traditional Greek music.

Vassiliki (Karakosta), a female world music performer with a great strong voice performing both rebetiko and traditional music mixed with jazz and ethno music elements in her performances. One of the most well-promised artists of Protasis.

Special collaborations with three of the most important Greek composers/soloists:

Nicos Antipas, a composer with international acknowledgment, was the person behind the composition for the commencement of the Olympic Games, Greece 2004.

Andreas Katsigiannis, a santur soloist and composer of the official theme for the Mediterranean Games, Turkey 2013, founder and director of Estoudiantina, the Smyrneiko music/songs most specialized Greek band.

Nicos Chatzopoulos, probably the best Greek violin virtuoso around the globe. His marvelous violin sound describes in the most remarkable way the colors of the Mediterranean Sea areas, the traditional music sounds of the Greek Islands.

Additionally, some of the greatest Greek soloists such as Manolis Karantinis (bouzouki), George Rokkas (bouzouki), Panagiotis Plastiras (clarinet), Kostas Pitsos (Laouto - Guitar), Giorgos Koros (violin), Petros Saridakis (Cretan lyre), and more are included in Protasis Music record productions.

Music Publishing Activity

In 2014, Protasis Music Publishing was founded as the sister publishing company, representing the copyright of 35,000 Greek music titles.

PRMP has signed sub-publishing agreements with 39 countries up to now, as well as a publishing company, having for both activities (copyright/authors' rights and masters) contracts with top-of-the-list Greek composers and soloists for publishing rights and music tracks as a main representative copyright and album/tracks owner for worldwide promotion of owned Greek music repertoire.

Protasis Music, through the experience and timeless cooperation with almost all the important players of the Greek music market of its founder Nikos Economou, holds a respectable position in the market, able to undertake any request concerning the Greek music scene in general.
