Özlem Bulut was born in 1982 in a small village in eastern Turkey and grew up with traditional Anatolian music. After being a street musician, at the age of 15 she began studying operatic singing in Mersin, later in Istanbul. In 2006, she received a scholarship from Vienna, Austria. She had engagements at the Vienna State Opera, the Opera Bastille in Paris, and the Vienna Volksoper, where she sang between 2008-2014. In 2008, Özlem Bulut founded the ensemble "Özlem Bulut Band." Her counterpart is Marco Annau, the composer and pianist of the group. This band immediately won several prizes at the Austrian World Music Contest 2008. Their first album "Bulut" (Turkish for cloud) appeared in 2011, and their second album "Aşk" (Turkish for "love") in 2014 entered the European world music charts under the top 20. Catchy chorus lines and vital oriental rhythms are enriched by profound improvisations and Özlem's outstanding voice. "We want to reframe the conventional picture of oriental music - to bring together orient and occident and create unique music of both worlds."

2016 "Aşk" was released by Harmonia Mundi in France.
