ABOUT
Nir Motzeri, a multi-instrumentalist and composer, is known for his virtuosity on a wide range of ethnic and traditional instruments. An artist of pure sound, Nir's music is audacious, expansive, and uninhibited. Bringing a new and unbridled freedom to musical composition, Nir fearlessly plays with all the musical elements in his repertoire. Reveling in music born from the interplay of East and West, the old world and the new, Nir is a musician unconstrained by the traditional boundaries of genre and ethnicity. His multi-instrumental compositions celebrate the sounds of diverse musical cultures as they meet and unfold in dynamic interplay.
Fusing traditional sounds from India, Ireland, the Mediterranean, Arabia, Eastern Europe, and American Bluegrass, his new release, "To Make Her Happy," brings these multiple genres into conversation throughout the album. Composing on violin, Greek and Irish bouzouki, mandolin, Algerian banjo, bansuri flutes, oud, and Turkish clarinet, Nir creates an epic and expansive diversity of sound. In "To Make Her Happy," Nir explores the ability of pure, wordless music to connect people to the place where the love of 'the journey that is life' is most deeply felt. The disc has been described as a modern innovation on the traditional Jewish niggun, music that awakens and elevates our innermost desire for deep joy, connection, and celebration.
