ABOUT
As one of the world’s premier guzheng musicians, Bei Bei has played an integral role in introducing this ancient Chinese instrument to audiences worldwide. Since making her debut in 2006, she has been prominently featured on Disney soundtracks, performed with global stars such as Christina Aguilera, and appeared as a soloist with the Pacific Symphony (three times), UCI Symphony (twice), and UCLA Game Music Ensemble (twice). She has also released several critically acclaimed original albums. Bei Bei’s fusion of Chinese classical and Western contemporary music is unlike anything else in modern music, continuing to endear her to an ever-growing fanbase. Born in Chengdu, China, Bei Bei fell in love with the guzheng as a child and started learning at the age of seven. She began formal studies at the Central University of Nationalities in Beijing at the age of 12, and at 18 attended the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, developing the classical virtuosity that would define her career. As an adult, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she debuted with the full-length album Quiet Your Mind and Listen in 2006. She quickly became an in-demand session performer, recording music for video games, television series, and films—including Disney’s live-action Mulan, Turning Red, and DreamWorks’ Kung Fu Panda 4. Bei Bei has performed throughout North America and around the world as both a solo artist and with her band, appearing at venues such as Segerstrom Center for the Arts, National Arts Centre (Ottawa, Canada), the Carpenter Theater (Cal State Long Beach), the Barclay Theatre (UCI), The Grove (Los Angeles), Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Shanghai National Convention Center, and the Popoli Pop Cult Festival in Italy. Bei Bei’s longevity can be attributed to her genuine love for Chinese music and her unceasing commitment to musical innovation. She continues to explore new ways of integrating traditional culture into modern music, breaking new ground and inspiring a new generation of guzheng players. Her recent projects include collaborations with prolific artists Shawn Lee, Fingazz, and Paul Elliott. With a series of new releases scheduled for 2025 and beyond, Bei Bei is poised to remain a fixture in contemporary music for years to come.
