A Platform for Ethnically and Culturally Inspired Music
ABOUT
Formed in 2005 as a duo for guzheng, the 21-string Chinese zither, and jazz percussion/drums, the ensemble Intime LYS has grown and transformed in the past nine years. The addition of erhu, Chinese fiddle, in 2007 and a change of drummer in 2009, led to a period of intense multicultural performances and was rounded out with the subsequent addition of a flute player, dizi, completing the traditional Chinese ensemble: bowed strings, woodwinds, plucked strings, and percussion.

From the start, the ensemble has created, produced, and performed in multicultural concerts and cultural events, and recorded, including the pieces "Nature" [2007], and "Five Elements" [2008]. For the past decade, members of the ensemble, and the ensemble itself, have developed a YouTube presence through many videos, mostly from concert performances. These activities have been focused in Montreal, with occasional appearances in the region (around MTL), establishing its professional presence in both the Chinese and Western musical communities.

The cultural objectives of the group have remained those of outreach, entertainment, education, and communication across cultural boundaries. This is reflected, of course, most strongly in the artistic evolution of the music and artistic developments of the group.
