Matilde Cid

Born in Estremoz, Matilde Cid grew up in the bosom of a family that had close links with music. The family's evenings were spent playing the guitar and piano, and singing. Her father was a fan of jazz, blues, and bossa nova, while her mother was a fan of fado. And it was in this way, through her mother, that fado became her preferred form of music. She naturally began by singing, firstly in the cafés of Estremoz and then later in Évora, at the same time as she was experiencing university life. Later, she came to Lisbon, where she discovered the true essence of fado in the Bohemian atmosphere of the capital's fado houses. Since then, Matilde has sung in various concerts including all of the editions of the biggest fado festival, Caixa Alfama, and also abroad, in Spain, France, Poland, the U.K., Switzerland, and Romania.
