ABOUT
Defrocked mathematician, Henri Oppenheim studied composition and orchestration at McGill University in Montreal. For over 15 years, he has dedicated himself to Jewish music. At first, he wrote and performed instrumental - klezmer - music; later he added vocal music sung in Yiddish. The Devoir newspaper described his music as "spectacular, celebratory, joyous and packed with emotion."
His newest project, "Tur Malka," is a song cycle based on 20th-century Yiddish poetry from Montreal. In these songs, Oppenheim transposes the rich musical traditions of the Old World into the new, illuminating 15 poems by seven extraordinary Yiddish writers.
