ABOUT
Pablo Blanco, aka DJ Pwhyte, is a Bronx, NY resident by way of Honduras. He is a Garifuna-American entertainer who specializes in Afro-Caribbean and Latin music, from Merengue to Punta to Reggae to Salsa to Zouk, Calypso, and Soca, among many. A special intimate relationship with music was forged early with a musically eclectic Garifuna community.
Attending social events growing up was a big part of Pwhyte's upbringing. Most events involved DJs. Pwhyte's parents noticed his love for the DJ culture from him hovering around the DJs and constantly listening to music at home. Having earned his DJ equipment at the age of 15, through obtaining good grades at school, a Gemini DJ kit was purchased. Both parents and uncles were avid vinyl LP record collectors. The love affair with pursuing a DJ career commenced when Pwhyte would play records for family members and see the excitement in their faces when he would display his cross-genre mixing skills.
Being raised in a musically eclectic home environment, all genres of music were played, including funk, Garifuna, jazz, blues, reggae, hip hop, and ballads. High school afternoons were spent focusing on the skill of mixing all the different genres. Throughout the years, the vinyl collection amassed to an excess of 25,000 records.
DJ Pwhyte has performed at private events and has held residencies at NYC area clubs such as Djembe, Hakoons, Rustik Tavern, K-Lounge, Pine Tree Lodge, Silvana, Shrine, Farafina, and at the legendary SOBs. DJ Pwhyte has released several mixtapes encompassing a combination of various genres on Mixcloud, Soundcloud, and Datpiff. He is an experienced DJ with access to many genres of music, including Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae, Latin, Zouk, Kompa, House, Merengue, Salsa, Bachata, Punta, Soukouss, Makossa, High Life, Afropop, Afrobeat, and Coupé Décalé.
