ABOUT
Alex Tea is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and artist living in Jersey City. He is the singer and leader of the band Kiwi, who recently released their second full-length album, "On the Move," to rave reviews. He has previously played in a number of groups, including the Jersey City Soul Band, the One and Nines, and the children's music project the Mama Doni Band, with which he toured nationally/internationally and co-produced a critically acclaimed record. He has done backup vocal arrangement and recording with producers Victor Rice and Klaus Sena, and singer/songwriter Saulo Duarte. An avid practitioner of the art form Capoeira, his frequent travels to Brazil began in 2003 and have come to be a running theme in Alex's life and music. An ongoing result of his numerous musical endeavors in Brazil is the Orchestra Raiz project, an international collaboration merging the deep and inquisitive stylings of Kiwi with traditional Brazilian rhythm and melody.
