ABOUT
Andrés Barrios Navarro is a native of Utrera (Seville). With his Andalusian roots, he has always loved flamenco, and he explores different touches and styles, adding them to his piano playing with his own unique personality. To broaden his artistic horizons, he incorporates jazz, Latin, and Afro-Cuban music by great musicians such as Chick Corea, Chucho Valdés, Michel Camilo, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, among others, all in a self-taught style. They all add something extra to the sound of the piano. And all these elements juxtapose to create a classical feel, something he has cultivated from a young age, and which also gives a harmonic and aesthetic sense to his works.
He finished his senior piano studies at the Bonifacio Gil Conservatory in Badajoz, with the prestigious pianist Ángel Sanzo, after obtaining a Professional Degree at The Francisco Guerrero Conservatory, Seville, where he obtained the Honorary Award on completion of the Piano degree. His official musical studies were classical piano, where he received classes from prestigious pianists such as Benedicte Palko and David Kuijken.
At the young age of 22, he had already played on major stages such as the Maestranza Theatre in Seville, Sala Turina, Essaouira World Music Festival (Morocco), Enrique de la Cuadra Theatre, Noches del Alcázar, Ciclo Latidos Flamencos, Mirajazz Festival, Badajoz Theatre, Madrid International Clazzjazz Festival, Badajoz Flamenco and Fado Festival, Vitoria Jazz Festival, and Cante de las Minas Festival where he won the Filón Award for “Best Instrumentalist 2018”, with public and critical successes.
He is currently fully involved in recording his first studio album. He composed all the tracks that will appear on it, which will be released in 2019.
