ABOUT
The San Diego Jewish Men's Choir (SDJMC) has been in existence for over 16 years. It is made up of a solid group of more than 25 singers from various walks of life, backgrounds, and ages. The members share a common goal: the preservation and promotion of Jewish choral music. They fulfill this mission through concerts, recordings, community outreach events, and appearances at festivals. The choir is affiliated with the Center for Jewish Culture and Creativity in Los Angeles, a non-profit organization sharing similar goals.

Under the musical direction of Ruth Weber, the men's choir presents over 30 concerts a year throughout the Southern California area. They have been featured on the Chabad Telethon, on the documentary Forever Strong, released in July 2015, and as backup singers for the Grammy-nominated children's artist Mr. G. They perform music of all styles, including liturgical, pop, folk, gospel, and musical theater, and sing in Hebrew, English, Yiddish, and Ladino languages.

L'Chaim Magazine gave the choir's debut album "a big mazel tov," and the San Diego Jewish Times reviewed their semi-annual festival, declaring, "Chanukah JAM a Sweet Confection." The San Diego Troubadour called the San Diego Jewish Men's Choir "one of the finest vocal ensembles San Diego has to offer."

SDJMC's first album, "Heritage," released in 2014, is a compilation of historically significant Jewish Choral Music. This album was a winner in the Global Music Awards, 2014. Part of the proceeds from the sale of this album went toward distributing free CDs of this music to Jewish senior homes, libraries, and religious schools throughout the U.S. to help ensure that the music will be enjoyed for generations to come.

The choir's second album, "Kochi," which includes beautiful arrangements by 2014 Grammy Award-winning composer/producer Ricky Kej, was released in August 2015. It is a musical celebration of the history of the Jews in India and features timeless Jewish melodies blended with traditional Indian instrumentation. It was awarded two Global Music Awards, the Akademia Award for Best World Beat Album, and debuted at #3 on the Billboard World Music Charts, as well as at #7 on the Billboard Heatseeker-Pacific Charts. It is currently on regular rotation on 109 radio stations in the U.S. and Canada. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this album will go to the Gabriel Project Mumbai, a non-profit service organization that provides nutrition, literacy, and basic hygiene needs to thousands of children in the slums of Mumbai, India.
