ABOUT
Sgub Kwela is a core group of three Alexandra-based musicians (Alice Mokoena - vocals, Pule Sepeng - horns and keyboards, and Samuel Banda - bass and keys) who have been jamming together since 2002. Their style is an energetic mix of Marabi, Afro-Pop, and Township Jazz that led them to victory at the 2005 Puisano Jazz Festival in Newtown. This is no surprise given their experience electrifying audiences all over South Africa with infectious, fun music played live. Sgub Kwela truly is a breath of fresh air both on stage and on their new CD, which features Albert Kumalo of the African Jazz Pioneers on guitar.
