Ethnically and Culturally Inspired Music
ABOUT
Saphrane (established in 2006) is a sublabel of the Music & Words family, a group of record labels known to bring you 'always something unusual'. Saphrane is no exception to this with its dedication to world music, jazz, and classical music. And sometimes these genres meet in the middle to create an extraordinary sound.
New Perspectives
Saphrane stands for new perspectives and new ideas, brought together by a team of passionate music lovers. Hans Peters (CEO of Music & Words), radio man and musician Gustavo Pazos (formerly Dutch national radio), and Marc Broer (mobile studio Art Sound) are the founders. The collaboration with Art Sound results in many live recordings, which gives a special intensity and emotion to the music.
Independent and Adventurous
Saphrane is independent and adventurous: we follow our own taste in music, we do not let 'the market' or the buying policy of record shops influence our choices. This way we can release a beautiful recording of the Moroccan singer Amina Aloui in an unusual small setting, a special program with the young rising tenor star Benjamin Hulett with the equally young and ambitious string section 440Hz, and we made room for classical guitar music from Uruguay. The beautiful and stylish cover designs of B.AD ensure that each Saphrane release can be recognized immediately.
