ABOUT
Giannis studied oud with Stelios Kassapakis and Giorgos Mavromanolakis at the Chorodion Academy of Music in Heraklion, Crete. He participated in seminars on Turkish-style oud and rhythmical & free improvisation at the Labyrinth Musical Workshop with Yurdal Tokcan and Harris Lambrakis, respectively, as well as taking part in the ensemble of Labyrinth Musical Workshop under Ross Daly's direction. He has performed during the presentation of Dimosthenis Karagiannis's book "To Moiroloi tis Ekavis" and in various music festivals. He has also composed music for the documentary film "When I Hear the Boats Whistle."

He has collaborated with Giorgos Papaioannou, Manolis Kanakakis, Giorgos Mavromanolakis, Glafkos Smarianakis, Marijia Katsouna, Michalis Kotis, Eugenia Toli, Peter Jaques, Kostis Poulianakis, Theodora Athanasiou, Ektoras Kyriakou, Aspa Anogiati, Ilias Markantonis, Fanis Karousos, amongst others. He founded Tarab in 2015 with Themis Polyzoakis and Eleanna Papanikolopoulou. In Ierapetra, he leads a traditional music ensemble working on songs and tunes of Anatolia and the Aegean islands and researching improvisation techniques.

He also teaches oud and rhythmical improvisation at the Music School of Ierapetra.
