ABOUT
The evolution of "Facing East Music" started with John Wubbenhorst's eclectic musical background of growing up outside NYC where John was taking in influences from jazz clubs, world music concerts (like Ravi Shankar and other Indian masters) and playing all types of music from blues, rock, jazz, western classical and experimental. John finally focused in on western flute as a teenager and had many profound teachers in his teens such as time a Berklee College in Boston, studies with Darius Brubeck and others. Then came years of intensive study of Indian music, first as a vocalist and then later John took up the bansuri and began studies with the great maestro Hariprasad Chaurasia. starting in the mid 90's John began composing music that reflected all his background and "Facing East Music" started to be performed with many different band formations. Key musicians have been Steve Zerlin - bass, Sandip Burman -tabla, Subash Chandran -ghatam, Ganesh Kumar -kanjira, Jorge Zamorano - guitar (very sad about his passing), Ken Anoff -percussion and others along with many special guests along the way such as Jack DeJohnette, Howard Levy, Victor Wooten, Paul Horn, Ramesh Mishra,Paul McCandless and others. The current 2015 lineup includes Jason Everett -bass, E. Doc Smith -Zendrum and Samrat Kakkeri -tabla... Hopefully we'll be touring in your area soon!
