Nana Yaw Kumi, performing as Kumi Guitar, is a Ghanaian contemporary highlife musician and instrumentalist, born on May 16, 1985, and raised in the capital city of Ghana, Accra. He completed his secondary school education at Adisadel College in Cape Coast. It was here that he delved into his passion for music, joining a music group and starting with rap before fully committing to what he's now famous for, Ghanaian highlife music.

Kumi broke into the Ghanaian mainstream in 2006 with the release of songs including "Obra," "Break in Two," and "Emaa Time." He has been actively releasing music since then, while gaining the affection of Ghanaians, especially with his signature guitar, which he's mostly spotted carrying around. Kumi has worked with highly rated individuals within the Ghanaian highlife music scene, from the old names to the new.

Kumi Guitar always recollects his experience coming up as a musician in Ghana, where he had to pick up odd jobs for several years, such as driving a taxi cab, in order to support his musical career financially. He preaches through his music and public relations to focus on the betterment of one's craft. He continually emphasizes that good music is his passion and that the fans deserve his priority. He has been with Zylofon Music since he was signed to the label in 2017, having released a number of hits as well as earning several nominations and awards.
