Cha-Li-X Brings Listeners a New Blend of Reggae and Calypso Soca Music
Cha-Li-X is a singer-songwriter and producer who gained popularity as a hip-hop artist in the local Antiguan music scene. He was influenced by local bands and reggae greats like Bob Marley, Culture, and Beenie Man. The artist went on the create his own genre of hip-hop music that uses popular reggae and calypso soca sounds.
In the late 1990s, Cha-Li-X entered the local dance hall scene and gained recognition as Sha Sha Marni DJ of the year. In 2008, the artist merged with Lee P Ching and brought back local folk music Benna to the music scene. They released Benna hits like “Let Me Tell You”, “Let’s Go Dancing”, and “Theme Cars” before Cha-Li-X decided to go solo in 2013.
Cha-Li-X has had a string of solo hit singles like “Bling Bling”, “Island Gyal” and albums ‘The X-Ologist’ and ‘Benna Gone Global'. His rhythmic fusion of local genres combined with ballad-style singing offers a breath of fresh air to avid music listeners.
Today, Cha-Li-X continues to put out his local yet modern music style for Antiguan and global listeners alike.
