ZHU Fangqiong

Born in 1971 in Ningshan, Shanxi Province, China, he began performing and producing music independently in the mid-1990s. He released the album "Heaven to the West" in 2003. After that, he began to develop ceramic musical instruments and ceramic acoustics. Based on music, he has gradually extended various perceptual possibilities through the cooperation of various arts. His music works are not restricted by style and form, and his live performances are fond of using current materials and the sound field in which he is located to build auditory space like architecture. Many years of musical exploration have been devoted to the unbounded and unhindered variety of possibilities, to breaking down the barriers between music and other art forms, and to establishing a free but disciplined dialogue. In his creation, a lot has been redefined: between music types, between bodies and instruments, between different instruments, between audience and performer, and between different aesthetic types. His free improvisation has a rigorous working method. He, as an artist, is the carrier of detection and perception, finding and evaluating the culture, history, physics, and emotional energy of the specific location.
