ABOUT
Princess Vinia (born Mbivwong Virginia Birlaf) is a female ethno-traditional-folk music artist from the Nso tribe of the Northwest region of Cameroon.
Her lyrics are generally topical, with an antiphonal structure, guided by repetitive and progressive percussive rhythms, with a soothed baseline and rhythmic guitar lines. Her grace and vibrancy project the rich ethnic music from Nso. Her serene vocals resonate with her flair for cultural displays and glamorous stage presence.
Princess Vinia started music at an early age in the secondary school choir and was also a member of the Nso Bahti Women Association Choir, where she honed her passion and skill for African folk music.
In 2019, she emerged as the winner at the Miss Mama Africa modeling contest. In 2020, she was an ex-Biggy 237 (The Game Changer). She has also participated in events such as the Kintati Arts and Cultural Festival (KACFEST) at the National Museum Yaoundé in February 2023, where she performed alongside artists such as Chilli Wawaye, Mr. Leo, Tribute Sister, Asaba, Kingsly-T, and Muss, and the Cameroon Music Evolution Awards (CMEA) at the Krystal Palace Hotel. In September 2023, she emerged as the winner at the Royal City Music Competition (RCMC) in Douala.
A graduate in Music Performance from the Lionz Academy for Arts and Entertainment, and signed to the renowned Cameroonian label, Lionz Muzik, Princess Vinia has metamorphosed into another dimension, a force to reckon with in the rich cultural indigenous sound genre.
Princess Vinia sees herself and her projects as a culmination of many years of cultural historical experiences and past events depicting the true identity of the people of Nso and the beauty of human cultural diversity.
