Great fathers of Salento music, Officina Zoè are pure pulse for dance and trance. Enthralling band, with an unmistakable sound and ambassador of pizzica in the world. The group's strong point is the constant search for trance and the cyclical nature inherent in the arcane rhythm of the tambourines and imbued with minimalism in the music and singing: this has made it possible, over time, to create new musical compositions that sing and tell the world of today, but deeply anchored and respectful of the philology and language of tradition.

Only in this way was it possible to restore the popular music of Salento, the Pizzica, to its role in the panorama of world music; a living tradition, as alive as the blood that circulates in the veins, far from folk, which instead tells of a dead tradition, resurrected only as entertainment for the court jester.
Officina Zoè was born in the spring of 1993, from the union of some musicians from Salento on the idea of Lamberto Probo, Donatello Pisanello and Cinzia Marzo. It immediately became the driving force of that movement of rebirth of the Salento musical tradition, which today brought Salento and its irreplicable local specificities to the international spotlight.
The group boasts numerous participations in important national and international music festivals, such as Womex in Berlin, the Villa Ada Festival (Rome, 14 July 2007), the Premio Tenco (Sanremo, 2001), Peter Gabriel's Womad in Palermo, the Sounds of the Dolomites Festival in Trentino with Baba Sissoko on 25 August 2007, the Voix de femmes festival in Brussels. And again at the Stimmen Festival, in Germany and the Festival dei Popoli in Florence, as well as concerts in the United States (Los Angeles, 1998), South Korea (Seoul, 2006) and Japan (Tokyo, Nagoya and Kyoto, 8-10 June 2007) concerts from which the CD Live in Japan was taken. They also collaborated, as authors of the soundtrack, in the documentary on the thirty years of the Chilean dictatorship, filmed by Marta Vignola, entitled "The Bandages of the Jaguaro" (2003).
The fruitful collaboration with director Edoardo Winspeare involved three films: “Pizzicata” (set in Salento during the Second World War), “Sangue Vivo”; “The Miracle” (for which the group provided the soundtrack).
He boasts numerous artistic collaborations in the theatrical (with Pamela Villoresi, Teatro Argot, Domenico Carli), cinematographic (with Edoardo Winspeare, Pippo Mezzapesa) and musical fields (Ominostanco, sound manipulator, Famoudou Don Moye, exponent of Afrojazz and drummer of the Art Ensemble of Chicago and Baba Sissoko, internationally renowned Malian multi-instrumentalist). In particular, the collaboration with the director Edoardo Winspeare concerned the film "Pizzicata". Officina Zoè contributed to the film, shot entirely in Salento, not only with the creation of the soundtrack, but also with the participation as actors. The film achieved flattering success, distributed and awarded both in Europe and in the USA. (San Sebastian, Edinburgh Festival, Paris – Festival Cinema Latina, New York – N.I.C.E. Award).

Grandi padri della musica salentina, gli Officina Zoè sono pulsazione pura per la danza e per la trance. Band trascinante, dal sound inconfondibile e ambasciatrice della pizzica nel mondo. L’elemento di forza del gruppo è la ricerca costante della trance e della ciclicità insita nel ritmo arcano dei tamburelli e intrisa di minimalismo nella musica e nel canto: ciò ha reso possibile, col tempo, la realizzazione di nuove composizioni musicali che cantano e raccontano il mondo di oggi, ma profondamente ancorate e rispettose della filologia e del linguaggio della tradizione.
L’elemento di forza del gruppo è la ricerca costante della trance e della ciclicità insita nel ritmo arcano dei tamburelli e intrisa di minimalismo nella musica e nel canto: ciò ha reso possibile, col tempo, la realizzazione di nuove composizioni musicali che cantano e raccontano il mondo di oggi, ma profondamente ancorate e rispettose della filologia e del linguaggio della tradizione. Solo in questo modo è stato possibile ridare alla musica popolare del Salento, alla Pizzica, il suo ruolo nel panorama della world music; una tradizione viva, come vivo è il sangue che circola nelle vene, lontana dal folk, che invece racconta di una tradizione morta, riesumata solo come intrattenimento del giullare di corte.
L’Officina Zoè nasce nella primavera del 1993, dall’unione di alcuni musicisti salentini su idea di Lamberto Probo, Donatello Pisanello e Cinzia Marzo. Da subito diventa forza motrice di quel movimento di rinascita della tradizione musicale salentina, che ha portato oggi alla ribalta internazionale il Salento e le sue irreplicabili specificità locali.
