About "A Song For Peace"
To keep my sanity, I try not to listen to or watch too much worldly news. One day near the beginning of 2021 I happened to catch some of the latest news about the record number of mass shootings that occurred the prior weekend across the US. The numbers were startling. According to the Gun Violence Archive, 22,668 lives had been taken by gun violence in 2021. 783 of those victims were children.
After hearing this news I kept asking myself, "WHY?!" With all of the stress and anxiety of dealing with Covid, why do some humans add more stress and anxiety by committing unpredictable mass shootings? It was then that I quickly set up my recording gear and recorded the attached song titled, "A Song of Peace." It was overdub recorded in one take. The instruments I played are; my Elk skin frame drum, key of B singing bowl, a turtle shell maraca rattle I made & filled with various gemstones, an E major red cedar wood flute, and an A major drone flute made out of old growth Douglas fir. I made both of the flutes. I want to share this single song with your devoted listeners, as a way of sharing the healing power of peaceful music.
