About "Kashaka Groove"
Short video featuring Kashaka shakers. Kashaka originate from West Africa and are known by many names (Kashaka, Asalato, Aslatua, Cas Cas, Kosh Kash, Thelevi, Patica, Kosika - and many more).
A simple shaker made of 2 balls (traditionally made from gourds) filled with beads, seeds, pebbles etc and joined with a rope. As the Kashaka swing, the balls knock together, creating clicks. Between the shakes & the clicks, some amazing rhythmic patterns can be created, including complex polyrhythms. More info: www.kashaka.uk
