The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) on Wednesday evening unveiled the nominees for its 2025 edition,
with Nigerian superstars dominating the list.Burna Boy and Davido lead the pack with five nominations
each, including coveted spots in the ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’ categories.
South Africa’s DJ Maphorisa matched them with five nods, including ‘Best African DJ’ and ‘Album of the
Year’. Morocco’s rap star El Grande Toto also secured five nominations.
Fast-rising street-pop sensation Shallipopi secured four nominations, including ‘Artiste of the Year’
and ‘Song of the Year’ for his hit ‘Laho’, while Rema secured three nominations.
Female artistes also made a powerful showing this year. Senegal’s Mia Guissé and Ghana’s Moliy each
earned five nominations, signalling a strong and growing influence of women in Africa’s music industry.
South Africa’s star Tyla earned four nominations, while Ayra Starr has two nominations.
Public voting opens September 10, 2025, on the official AFRIMA website. Voting will close on November
29, ahead of the main awards ceremony on November 30, 2025. The 2025 AFRIMA events will run from
November 25 to 30 in Lagos, Nigeria.
