"The Cameroonian master musician Franck Biyong remains an enigma on his kick-ass new single for
Tangential Music. Only he could follow up his brilliant tribute to the great musicians of Africa
on his 2024 album - 'Radio Masoda' - with a tough-as-nails psychedelic blues-rock tune that channels
Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Miles and a host of Afro Rock and boogie blues devotees.
Recorded in Paris and Saint Ouen with an international cast of collaborators, Franck riffs it hard
over tough drums and bass, whilst deep-in-the-mix horns and a trio of female backing vocals raise
the already scorching temperature.
The lyrics address the growing rift between Black Americans and African immigrants in North America
as well as the damage inflicted on Africa by foreign monetary aid but in some sense, they could also
be universally understood as how the system makes it hard for everyone apart from the elite. Vocally,
Franck sounds surprisingly similar to Liam Bailey, the British soul, reggae and blues hotshot:
melancholia and fire combined. Turn it up!’
