ABOUT
Etno zbor Ljelje is a rising world music choir from Slovenia performing traditional Balkan music. They presented themselves for the first time at the Floating Castle Festival in 2022 and have since been charming audience hearts at bigger and smaller festivals around Slovenia and abroad (Marrakech Choir Meeting Festival, Kavč Festival, Kamfest, Križnikov storytelling festival, Gotropolis...). Etno zbor Ljelje is recognizable for their refined wildness on stage. The audience will hardly resist immersing in the depths of old stories and melodies and becoming part of the choir by the end of the performance. The name Ljelje comes from the Slavic goddess Lelya, protector of women, forest mother, and Sun’s bride, who was known for bringing cheerfulness, love, and encouragement to young hearts.
The choir founder and conductor is Jelena Soro, an ethno alchemist, singer, oboist, composer, and music teacher. She got her master’s degree in Contemporary Performance from Berklee College of Music Valencia on the topic of Music and Consciousness. She primarily focuses on Balkan traditional music and improvisation, bringing the old and forgotten songs closer to the audience not just by melodies but also by the meaning and archetypal messages they carry.
