On Sept. 18, 1970, Ancient Future leader Matthew Montfort was home sick from school when he learned that his musical hero Jimi Hendrix had passed away. Montfort spent the day on his guitar playing Hendrix pieces. In an echo of history, Ancient Future's first ever cover of a popular song, "Purple Haze (Vietnamese Đàn Bầu Style)" is available for preorder starting Sept. 18, 2024, on streaming sites, and will be released with "Purple Nam (Glissentar & Đàn Bầu Duet)" as a mini-45 on Feb. 7, 2025, in honor of Hendrix's completion of his "Purple Haze" recording on Feb. 7, 1967.
