About "The Xila Grassland"
The Xila Grassland

traditional Mongolian song

The Xila Grassland tells the story of a lone soldier who awakens on a scorched battlefield. Lacking paper and pen, and with only the dim moonlight to guide his hand, he writes a farewell letter to his family using blood and a torn section of his tunic. On the battlefield he waits for someone to pass by and deliver the letter to his distant home.

In this desolation, where no one remains,

I think of home, with feelings true.

Separated by the unbounded sky, the endless grasslands,

I can only sing to the moon.
