A Platform for Ethnically and Culturally Inspired Music
About "M'barider: Homeland"
Written by Moussa Sylla, a Guinean now living in the UK. This track is in Susu (Soussou/Soso/Susu - depending on which colonial spelling you use). It's about the importance of not forgetting where you come from, emotionally and geographically. About not losing the sense of connection with your family, even when/, especially when, you are no longer living in the country of your birth, your homeland. For African musicians living so far away from their own culture in the West, outside of the family groups they are used to, this is especially poignant and hard to come to terms with.
