About "Ta Kommena Ta Malia Sou / Peacock's Feather"
This is a track from Salamander's third album "Jojnes Trojm: Music from Jewish Traditions & Beyond", released on October 19 2024. It is one of the few non-Jewish tracks on the album. "Ta Kommena Ta Malia Sou" is a Greek Rebetika song from the repertory of Marika Papagika (1890-1943). The lyrics translate as "Once again your mother has cut your hair, bayiantera. That hair of yours, cut so short, has inflamed many, including me. Your hair and your beauty spot brought me to your neighborhood. My bayiantera, my lady, come heal my heart." The song is followed by a traditional Irish hornpipe dating from the early 19th century.
