About "The River (Kalavati) Featuring Rangashree Varadarajan, Ajay Ravichandran, & Behzad Habibzai"
From the album, Exit 1:
Arranged by Nistha Raj and Rangashree Varadarajan.
Based on the Carnatic (South Indian) Raga Valachi and Hindustani (North Indian) Raga Kalavati. The first half is a traditional Carnatic composition, “Jalandhara” or “A Place”, set to Roopak Taal, a 6-beat rhythmic cycle in the Carnatic tradition. The second half is a melody I wrote set to Teentaal, a 16-beat rhythmic cycle and performed in the traditional Hindustani classical manner featuring a Sawal Jawab (call and response).
