"True Home" was composed after a two-week trip to Senegal, where Mike Herting went to give some lectures and play several concerts with university students in Saint-Louis. For Mike, it was a wonderful experience to witness the natural talent of the students, who had no formal musical training, but who made music with heart and soul. Back home, the pianist came up with this composition one day after his arrival, because traditionally influenced African music doesn't need many harmonies and yet he revelled in harmonies, his true home.
