"Clouds was inspired by "Both Sides Now" (1967), a transcendental piece of pop music written by Joni Mitchell. The pianist Mike Herting hadn't listened to this song for a long time, but he accidentally came across the tune one day and that is how "Clouds" was born.
Of course, it is dedicated to the great singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell.
