ABOUT
Jana Kirschner released her debut album in '97 under Universal Music. After two years of intensive cooperation with marvelous Slovak musicians, her 2nd studio album V cudzom meste has been released. It was a huge commercial success but brought the academic one, too. In '99, Jana was awarded gold at Slávik awards, later she was nominated in 11 categories at Aurel awards which are prestigious Slovak Music Academy Awards. Soon, Jana was ready to expand to the Czech Republic and started to work with Czech musicians M. Horáček and P. Hapka on a CD titled Mohlo by tu být i líp. She became well respected in the Czech Republic mainly for an extraordinary ballad Bude mi lehká zem. The cooperation with Horáček and Hapka continued until '06 when the album Strážce plamene was released. Surprisingly, Jana has recorded a duet with Czech folk musician J. Nohavica for this CD. In '02, Jana released the Pelikán album.
After the release of Veci čo sa dejú in '04, Jana was awarded The Singer Of The Year. Her song Na čiernom koni became the best song in Slovakia along with the video directed by Ondrej Rudavský. In '05, Jana moved to London to work on her album Shine with excellent British producer Ross Cullum, famous for working with Tears for Fears, Enya, T. Amos, B. Ferry... The CD Shine was released in '07. Within another year, she has written a title song to Pokoj v duši, a very successful Slovak film (track notes unexpected commercial success). On May '10, she released another Slovak album Krajina Rovina. There are no hesitations about its maturity; it reflects Jana as a tremendous musician and a strong personality with a warm heart. She invited British musician and producer Eddie Stevens, known for Freakpower, Moloko, Roisin Murphy, Zero 7, to work with her, and the result of this cooperation is heard on Krajina Rovina.
Moruša Biela is the first part of a project which is a two-album set: the first is Moruša Biela and the second is Moruša Cierna. Across the two albums, the music and lyrics cover much ground. Musically, the first album is more acoustic. The lineup of cello, violin/viola/zlopcoke, accordion, clarinet/bass clarinet, tuned percussion, cimbalom, piano, plus rhythm section and male vocal quartet lends itself to folk and classical music of the area of Central Europe, which the album is heavily influenced by, though realized through the prism of contemporary composition and "pop" song-craft (released in November 2013). The 2nd album brings in more electronics, improvisations, experimentation, and various modern pop production techniques without digressing too far from the overall narrative (it will be released in 2014).
