ABOUT
Alejandro’s Full Attack Band has its origins in late 2007, London. At the time, Alejandro Toledo was concluding his Master's degree in music performance at SOAS, University of London, and formed "The Violent Clam," which performed his compositions at his final examination. This initial band then went on to perform several local shows before dissolving in early 2008, at which time Alejandro began his Ph.D. studies at Goldsmiths, University of London.
To correlate with his performance research, he formed his subsequent band "The Magic Tombolinos." This new band received strong national and international acclaim, winning several awards, and featured at various major festivals, radio, and television programs. The band became known for its high-energy live performances and virtuosic abilities.
The Magic Tombolinos' music consisted of experimenting with folk and urban elements, exploring combinations of atonal and traditional forms with punk, urban, and other dance styles deriving from London’s multicultural scene. The project formed part of Alejandro’s doctoral thesis "World Music, Creative Reinterpretation, and the East Moldavian Roma Tradition," which explored the experience of being a "World Music" ensemble in Western Europe, as well as East European Roma musical practices.
On December 26th, 2013, the band’s guitarist Davide Lufrano Chaves passed away from Multiple Myeloma (blood cancer). This led to the band taking some time off to regroup. A charity was organized to raise funds for Multiple Myeloma research, and 3 free tracks which the band recorded with Davide several months prior to his death have been made available to download.
The band reassembled in May 2014. Alejandro had just returned from a trip back from his native Argentina with new tracks and new directions for this new band, which he called The Full Attack Band. Some previous members remained and some new members joined. Its current line-up consists of Alejandro Toledo (Sax and Vocals), Marco Quarantotto (Drums), Jack Haigh (Guitars), Rob Shipster (Electronics/Percussion), and Matteo Grassi (Bass). The band also collaborates with different vocalists and instrumentalists. Since its regrouping, Alejandro’s Full Attack Band has been experimenting with new rhythms and new directions in melodic construction, as well as new forms and arrangements while exploring concepts of randomness (chance music) and dance as rituals in the 21st Century.
The band is scheduled to release their new album in early 2015. The album as a whole aims to explore concepts of minimalism and rawness as random, incidental, and improvisatory states of being.
The music derives from forms of World Beat, urban, post-World music, and dance musics through a combination of acoustic and electronic elements.
The tracks will also feature various vocalists and instrumentalists from different styles and nationalities.
