ABOUT
Eleanor Dubinsky has found the tender edge where jazz, world, and pop sensibilities meet emotionally forthright songwriting. Composing in English, French, and Spanish, the multi-instrumentalist is noted for her potent, soothing vocals, enlivened by Latin, Brazilian, American, and West African rhythms. Her new album, Soft Spot of My Heart, recorded in Lisbon and NYC in 2017, is a globally savvy collection of tracks foregrounding Dubinsky's emotional honesty while embracing the musical colors and influences of collaborators from Portugal, NYC, Cape Verde, and Brazil. Dubinsky grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, studying classical cello from the age of three, singing with her high school jazz band, and immersed in contemporary dance. Her linguistic facility and lengthy time spent in France, Argentina, and the Czech Republic reinforced her belief in art as a force of community action. Along with music, Eleanor spent a decade dancing in the eclectic and inquisitive NYC downtown dance scene. In 2012, Dubinsky began following a thread she found listening to Portuguese artist Sara Tavares, feeling a natural compatibility with Tavares' sound that launched a five-year period of research and exploration in Portugal and Cape Verde, ultimately leading to her aforementioned current release, Soft Spot of My Heart.
