ABOUT
We are the Contemporary Lovers of Mevlana. Our group is founded on the loving thoughts and ideas of the saint and mystical poet Mevlana Mohammed Jelaluddin Rumi. We are the Whirling Dervishes of Turkey.

Our aim is to offer Rumi’s ideas of love and tolerance to the world. Since 1987, we have traveled throughout Europe, Japan, and America presenting the Sema (The Whirling Ceremony), Sufi (mystic) music concerts, and conferences and talks introducing the words of Mevlana at cultural and music festivals and at the invitation of various organizations and centers of learning. Rumi offered his way of love without regard for race, creed, or language.

The Sema Ceremony is a rich combination of music and sublime movement and is specific to the Mevlevis, the Order of the Whirling Dervishes. Because of the broad appeal of this ceremony and concert, cultural societies, religious organizations, and university departments such as Middle East Studies, Drama, Dance, Music, Philosophy, and Religion have shown interest in it.

The young men and women in our choir are conservatory-trained on the lute, kanun (oriental zither), kudum (small, double drum), ney (oriental flute), and other traditional Turkish instruments; they sing their love of the Divine. Love and skill are combined to produce lively, inspiring concerts and ritual music. Samples of our Sufi music concerts and Whirling Dervishes ceremony "Sema" include: 2015/May Belgium, Liège "Le Forum de Liège"; 2014/February Qatar, Doha "The Sufi Program with Women Dervishes and Musicians"; 2013/June France, Paris "Festival de l'Imaginaire, Maison des Cultures du Monde, Opéra de Bastille"; 2011/May Germany, Nuremberg in National Museum "Musica Sacra International Festival"; 2010/July Greece, Heraklion Festival; 2009/September Holland, Maastricht "Musica Sacra International Festival".
