Ethnically and Culturally Inspired Music
About "Mariška / Mary (Jane)"
In this traditional song from Komjatice in the Požitava region there’s originally just the
little dove, all the other animals came in in the arranging process, somehow. The interplay
is a vlachiko, a swift gypsy dance from the Šariš region our friend Mišo Noga taught us. So
we thought that if gypsy music is so carefree and the children wouldn’t mind either, there’s
always room for some Jamaican sun.

In a yard in Komjatice
A dove is flying
She coos nicely
And asks for Mary Jane

Come, come to us
Come, Mary Jane, come
Come to us

In a yard in Vráble
Young billy-goats are jumping
They fight with their horns
They cry for Mary Jane

Come, come…

In a yard in Nitra
A proud peacock is proudly walking
He screeches like a madman
He asks for Mary Jane

Come, come…

In a yard in Pressburg
A big swine dwells
It sticks out its snout
It beckons for Mary Jane

Come, come…
