A Platform for Ethnically and Culturally Inspired Music
About "Itly Sambar"
Itly Sambar is a composition mainly based on the pentatonic South Indian Raga Hamsadhwani.
Here the amusing story behind the title. Idli Sambar is a very popular South Indian snack which can be enjoyed for breakfast or at any odd times. While Anello was in India throughout the years (he spent more than 5 years there absorbing the culture and the music) the very first question he was asked by the locals, with the unavoidable Indian head-shake was: "Sir, from which country do you belong?" to which Anello would of course answer: "Italy". Without fault the interlocutor would echo: " Ah, Itly". So this song being composed by an Italian on a South Indian raga had to be called "Itly Sambar"
