The story talks about young woman becoming old enough to get married and how her love is conditioned by richness of the bachelor approaching. On the surface seemingly materialistic, we see the song as a commentary of women being forced at the time to choose material existence over matters of the heart, as they themselves didn't have the right to personal possessions.
