Solar Solace is a very isolated sounding piece with very atmospheric textures. It has a nice slow hip hop groove layered with ethnic percussion underneath echoed and panning melodic textures of the steel drum and sitar. This piece was the very first composed for this album and even this style. It started of with one pan playing an Ostinato and slowly building them in with counterpoint and layering them on top of one another in different incarnation and groups, which came to be the Method & Approach for the rest of the Album. Being that the 5 Pans were all ostinado based in short phrases I chose to freestyle a Melody on Steel drums Doubled by a Sitar and Heavily messed with the Panning and effects on them. Then Came writing the Percussion grooves. 2 Electronic Kits were used: one for more exotic percussion, and one for more traditional Electronic/Hip Hop elements which then works perfectly with the Thick Bass Synth that Holds down the bottom end and adds a new character to the Piece. It Layers out Similar to the way it Layers it Very Symmetrical like Many other pieces on the record.
