A Platform for Ethnically and Culturally Inspired Music
ABOUT
Tangoko is a Scandinavian-based music collective consisting of musicians from Finland and Sweden. The band, which refers to itself as a "collective of composers, singers, and artists," was formerly called "The Tangoko," but shortened the name to "Tangoko." Tangoko in Finnish means "is this tango?" Tangoko was formed by the sculptor, sound artist, and composer Dan Tommi (www.dantommi.net), who is from Finland but now living in Gothenburg, Sweden. Tangoko is part of an evolving tango genre known as "Electrotango" or "Tango Fusion," which brought tango back into the mainstream. Tangoko likes to call themselves the new Finnish Tango fusion. This is because Tangoko relies on the Finnish tango, which is an established variation of the Argentine tango and one of the most enduring and popular music forms in Finland. Tangoko mixes the melancholy mood found in the Finnish tango with house music, chill-out, and techno, and the lyrics are in Finnish only.
